 Road safety is a major issue. In the European Union, more than 26,100 people died on the roads in 2015 alone.[1] And a further 135,000 suffered life-changing injuries.[2]

Despite there being far fewer miles driven at night compared with daytime, nearly 40% of all accidents occur after dark.[3] There are a number of reasons for this: drivers are more tired and are more likely to have drunk alcohol.
